uTorrent ( 1.7.7 )

Developed by : BitTorrent Inc. Published by : BitTorrent Inc.

download,torrent,client,peer,to,internet,file,sharing

uTorrent is a powerful and efficient BitTorrent client for Windows. Most of the features present in other BitTorrent clients are present in uTorrent, including bandwidth prioritization, scheduling, RSS auto-downloading, and Mainline DHT. Additionally, uTorrent supports the protocol encryption joint specification and peer exchange. Unlike many torrent clients, it does not hog valuable system resources--typically using less than 6MB of memory, allowing you to use the computer as if it weren\\\'t there at all. Version 1.7.5 contains full Vista support, Local Peer Discovery and various fixes and enhancements.

uTorrent s a powerful and efficient Torrent client for Windows.

uTorrent s a powerful and efficient Torrent client for Windows. In plain English, it is a peer-to-peer application which allows you to download content (applications, video files, audio files, etc.) directly from other users. Installing and using it is quite easy as long as you pay attention to some details.

When you run the installation kit, you will see the welcome screen asking you whether you want to install the program. Besides, you can choose to create Desktop, Start Menu and QuickLaunch shortcuts. Choose your preferences adn click 'Yes' to proceed.

Next, you will have to decide whether to keep uTorrent as the default application for opening torrent files. If you click on 'Yes', torrent files will be always handled by uTorrent even if you have installed other BitTorrent clients such as 'BitLord' or 'BitTorrent'. You may as well un-check the box where it asks you to always perform this check.

Well, uTorrent has been installed and you need one more step to complete before it's fully funcional. Actually, you can skip this 'Speed Guide', but it's best if if you configure it now in order to make sure the program works at its best capabilities. Here you have to choose you connection type. For example, I chose a 2 Mbit connection, which means that I can download content at approximatively 256 Kbytes/second. This means that a 10 Mb file will be downloaded within 40 seconds.

Before clicking on 'Use Selected Settings' it's advisable to check if your port is forwarded properly. If you push that button, a new window will be opend in your default Web browser and the communication through that port will be checked if everything is ok, you should get the messsagedisplayed in the last image below.

It may be helpful to check the 'Enable Encryption' just to make sure everything is OK. If all goes well, you will be able to start downloading stuff immediately. However, I suggest you pay attention to any copyright issues that might need taking into consideration.

KTorrent - Kubuntu BiTorrent Client (Kubuntu)
July 10, 2008

Unlike Ubuntu which is packaged with Gnome, for the KDE desktop that comes with Kubuntu is a little bit harder to find native clients, or clients which fit good on your desktop. However, there are a couple of clients which are accesibile: KTorrent and qBittorrent. There is another client which fits with Kubuntu, but being available only as source package makes it to be appropriate for the advanced users. If you're OK with the source code compiling, then go ahead for FatRat, otherwise, stick to the already existing clients.

Using BitTorrent clients under Ubuntu - Azureus
(Ubuntu)Published: June 13, 2008

Although under Linux you won't find BitTorrent clients such as uTorrent and BitComet which are popular under Windows OS, or at least you can't run them under as native binaries, however you can find very good alternatives. Since I am going to write about Ubuntu clients, thus appropriate for the Gnome desktop environment, I am not going to mention the clients which are typical for KDE. Under Gnome there are some popular clients such as Deluge, Transmission, and Azureus. However, Deluge and Azureus have Windows builds, thus for some of you, these clients might not be a brand new thing.
