A regular Windows defrag tool will consolidate your data and remove all fragments (Vista defrag won't even do that) but it does not even come close to optimizing your hard drive because it does not consider relative placement and positioning of the data on your hard drive beyond consolidating to the outer tracks.

This is what the developers said about their software. With such a statement it’s hard not to test the program. So I get down to it. Got the application and let’s start install (de)fragging.

The first screen that you will see once you start the installation will be a warning. Since it was my first time, no worries about.

Once you start the real installation, you will have to choose the folder where you want your program.

Once you choose it and press Continue, the files will be decompressed and Ultimate Defrag 2008 will be installed. (defrag4)

After the installation has been completed you will be informed that you have a shortcut on your desktop for easy to launch the application.

So what are we waiting for?

I launched the program and voila. Each partition I have on my system as it looks on the disk. To view the files you have in each sector you have to View->Zoom In from the menu and select a sector.

To defrag, you have a total of 6 methods. Each of these methods can be modified as you see fit but most of the options are the same.

The option that comes in handy and stands out for Ultimate Defrag 2008 is Folder/File name and gives you the ability to choose which files/folders you want near the inner tracks, in other words, to speed them up.

The general options are not that many. But the program it does the job. After testing different methods of defrag I couldn’t see any significant difference but I think the main cause is that the HDD was already defragged.
