Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Out Now: Slipstreaming or New Installation?

Microsoft have released the Windows Vista Service Pack 1.

Getting passed the release candidate versions and after being released on February 4, 2008 to 15,000 beta testers, as well as to OEMs, Volume License customers, MSDN and TechNet Plus subscribers, Windows Vista Service Pack 1 has finally been released to the greater public. Detailed information about the newly released Vista Service Pack can be found here and here.

TechNet and MSDN subscribers can download Windows Vista with the integrated Service Pack 1 here and the Standalone Vista Service Pack 1 update here. The Windows Vista with the integrated Service Pack 1 image file contains Windows Vista Business with Service Pack 1, Windows Vista Home Basic with Service Pack 1, Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 and Windows Vista Ultimate with Service Pack 1.

Non-subscribers can download the Service Pack via Windows Update or as a standalone package here: 32-bit version and 64-bit version.

Now, if you wish to slipstream the Vista SP1 directly into an existing install image, you will face a troublesome process. Basically, you will have to install your image to a machine, install the Service Packa and then re-capture the image. vLite users will find out that there's no way to slipstream the Vista SP1 using this tool. There's hope though. Microsoft has released a guide containing instructions for evaluating and deploying Windows Vista SP1. You can download the guide here. I'm sure that IT professionals and dedicated geeks using the Automated Installation Kit (AIK) for Windows Vista SP1 and Windows Server 2008 (download here) will find it valuable enough to get the job done.

All this being said, I wish you all good luck.

qBittorrent - Kubuntu BitTorrent Client
(Kubuntu)Published: July 10, 2008

Unlike Ubuntu which is packaged with Gnome, for the KDE desktop that comes with Kubuntu is a little bit harder to find native clients, or clients which fit good on your desktop. However, there are a couple of clients which are accesibile: KTorrent and qBittorrent. There is another client which fits with Kubuntu, but being available only as source package makes it to be appropriate for the advanced users. If you're OK with the source code compiling, then go ahead for FatRat, otherwise, stick to the already existing clients.

Using BitTorrent clients under Ubuntu - Azureus
(Ubuntu)Published: June 13, 2008

Although under Linux you won't find BitTorrent clients such as uTorrent and BitComet which are popular under Windows OS, or at least you can't run them under as native binaries, however you can find very good alternatives. Since I am going to write about Ubuntu clients, thus appropriate for the Gnome desktop environment, I am not going to mention the clients which are typical for KDE. Under Gnome there are some popular clients such as Deluge, Transmission, and Azureus. However, Deluge and Azureus have Windows builds, thus for some of you, these clients might not be a brand new thing.
