CutePDF Configuration Guide

If you have downloaded and installed 'CutePDF', you can definitely create PDF files from any file that can be printed. Since 'CutePDF' id a virtual printer, it will appear in your system ('Printing devices') as a proper printer.

 

In order tp create PDF files, you can use any application which has a printing option: Office applications (word processors, presentation apps, etc), image viewers, image processing apps, email clients, Web browsers and so on.

Printing through 'CutePDF' is quite easy. I've chosen an example of how to print from MS Word (Microsoft Office 2007 suite). Select the 'Print' option from the program menu and in the printing configuration window click on the drop down menu and select 'CutePDF'.

 

 

 

Once you've done that, you are ready to print as many materials as you like. If you want to configure your printer, go to 'Properties' or 'Preferences' (depending of the program you are using).

 

In the newly open window, you need to click on the 'Advanced' botton in order to have access to printing options suc as paper size, color setup, scaling, font options and so on.

CutePDF Setup Guide

CutePDF is not an application with a proper interface. It is actually a virtual printer driver which works in a combination with PS2PDF converter.

The installation is a normal process, just as for any other application. Just run the downloaded executable files and the Setup Wizard will initialize. Click 'Next' to proceed.

 

 

 

 

 

After you've accepted the License Agreement, click 'Next' to proceed with the installation. One more click on Install and the files will be copied onto your drive.

 

At some point, the setup will stop and a confirmation window will pop up asking you whether you want to install a free converter or not (Internet connection required). I suggest you click 'Yes'.

 

 

 

 

This is the last step of the installation process. If everything went well, CutePDF should appear as a printer in your system.

Unlike Ubuntu which is packaged with Gnome, for the KDE desktop that comes with Kubuntu is a little bit harder to find native clients, or clients which fit good on your desktop. However, there are a couple of clients which are accesibile: KTorrent and qBittorrent. There is another client which fits with Kubuntu, but being available only as source package makes it to be appropriate for the advanced users. If you're OK with the source code compiling, then go ahead for FatRat, otherwise, stick to the already existing clients.
