CCleaner is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. But the best part is that it\\'s fast (normally taking less than a second to run).

CCleaner has four main sections which can be selected using the 4 icons in the left-hand navigation panel.
(The Cleaner section is selected by default.)

Cleaner
This is the main feature of the program, which will allow you to optimize your system, by removing unused and temporary files. It also protects your personal privacy by removing traces of the websites you have visited and the files you have opened.
(It's important to point out that it does this without removing any files you'll still need!)

Registry
This is a more advanced feature which analyses your computers registry (where windows system settings are stored) and fixes any problems and inconsistencies that exist.

Tools
This section allows you manage installed programs and applications that run when you turn on your computer.

Options
The Options section handles a wide array of preferences for how CCleaner runs.

CCleaner User Guide - part 1- Cleaning Junk Files

I won't be explaining how every feature works. Instead, I shall insist on some issues that might require some attention, such as the use of some tools.

As you can see, the program has a simple user interface. On the left hand side of the screen there are four sections: 'Cleaner', 'Registry', 'Tools' and 'Options'.

When you click on the 'Cleaner' section, you will be able to analyze both the operation system and installed applications for junk files. This means that the program will scan your system for redundant files which can be deleted. Now, if you look carefully, each item to be scanned, whether it's a program or a Windows component, has a checkbox.

Most of the boxes are checked by default. Those that are not checked may contain items which can be vital for you: for example, if you check the 'Autocomplete form history' from 'Internet Explorer', you may lose all the login data (usernames and passwords) stored by the browser. The same goes for 'Firefox's' 'Saved Form Information'.

If you try to check the boxes under the 'Advanced' category, the program will warn you about what is about to happen, so it's up to you to decide. Besides these issue, cleaning up your system is easy. Just click the 'Analyze' bhutton, wait for the process to end and then click on 'Run Cleaner'.

KTorrent - Kubuntu BiTorrent Client (Kubuntu)
July 10, 2008

Unlike Ubuntu which is packaged with Gnome, for the KDE desktop that comes with Kubuntu is a little bit harder to find native clients, or clients which fit good on your desktop. However, there are a couple of clients which are accesibile: KTorrent and qBittorrent. There is another client which fits with Kubuntu, but being available only as source package makes it to be appropriate for the advanced users. If you're OK with the source code compiling, then go ahead for FatRat, otherwise, stick to the already existing clients.

Using BitTorrent clients under Ubuntu - Azureus
(Ubuntu)Published: June 13, 2008

Although under Linux you won't find BitTorrent clients such as uTorrent and BitComet which are popular under Windows OS, or at least you can't run them under as native binaries, however you can find very good alternatives. Since I am going to write about Ubuntu clients, thus appropriate for the Gnome desktop environment, I am not going to mention the clients which are typical for KDE. Under Gnome there are some popular clients such as Deluge, Transmission, and Azureus. However, Deluge and Azureus have Windows builds, thus for some of you, these clients might not be a brand new thing.
